(Nogi 26)English Translation of Ioki Mao With Magazine Interview (02/07/2022)

In February of this year, 11 of the 5th generation students became new members of Nogizaka46. At the "5th Generation Omitataekai" where they made their debut, the with editorial department selected Ioki Mao who excluded a sense of transparency and  awarded her with the "future star" award, which is given to those who have a high potential for development and possibility. In commemoration of winning the with award, this special photo shoot and interview (4 times in total) was conducted with Ioki. In the first interview, we will asked her, who is thrilled about her first solo shoot, and how she feels about her first solo shoot and living alone in Tokyo for the first time.

—Ioki San who won the with award for the first time this time. Said that "one of her dream came true so quickly" and challenged the shoot/photography with excitement

Ioki:I was surprised to have been pick out of the 11 5th generation members. It has always been my longing to appear in fashion magazines, and I am very happy that this dream has come true so quickly! Because I like fashion and I am also interested in models, I want to be more suitable for fashion and to be able to convey its charm.

——She was a little nervous about her first solo shoot.  To relieve tension while shooting on the roof, she was asked to shout out her favorite words/phrases, and an unexpected/phrase popped up!

Ioki: Although I am excited and nervous today, I'm also very happy as I wasn't allowed to go to the rooftop at my school, so I didn't expect to be able to shoot on the rooftop today while wearing a uniform. When I was asked to shout the words I liked on the roof, my mind went blank, and I called out "(Maguro!)Tuna——!!!!" without thinking. (laughs). I felt a sense of maturity and happy when I was wearing a dress and a slightly wet hairstyle that was different from how I usually style and dress! The Stylist also assisted me in preparing my clothes and makeup. I feel like I'm a different person now.

—— Ioki San wore a white blouse and jeans for the photoshoot. I've heard that Ioki likes fashion and has recently developed an interest in makeup.

Ioki:I haven't done much makeup so far, but since joining Nogizaka46, I've been constantly inspired by everyone who excludes feminine aura. They taught me a lot of things in detail, and I gradually developed an interest in makeup. I recently purchased an eyeshadow palette from Etude House, as well as a mascara recommended on Instagram, and so on. It's fun to experiment with new things.

Feeling "Tokyo" from the view from Tokyo Tower

——In April, Ioki traveled to Tokyo after passing the audition. She was born in Hyogo Prefecture and loves tuna, as she mentioned at the omitataekai "During the final round of auditions, I went to Tsukiji* and ate a tuna rice bowl. I hope to perform a tuna dismantling show one day!". What surprised her the most about her first visit to Tokyo?

(Author's note: This could be a magazine error for the April section as they have already move into the dorm much earlier .)

Ioki: There are many places in Tokyo that I want to visit, and I have gone to tourist attractions on my own at times. I've also visited Tsukiji and climbed the Tokyo Tower on my own. In addition, I attempted to walk to Tokyo Tower. It was nice to take a leisurely walk in Tokyo, even if it took some time. The scenery that can only be seen from the Tokyo Tower's main observation deck astounds me. I was surprised to learn that a school in Tokyo had a rooftop playground. Next time, I'd like to climb the Skytree. Also, I want to go to the beach dressed as a sailor and take photos with my friends.

Living alone for the first time and having fun

——She is currently enjoying her first experience living alone. Loves interior design and have fun decorating her room.

Ioki: I have always liked interior decoration , and I always wanted to decorate my room after living alone, and I have finally realized this dream! So far I have placed a large mirror with a golden frame  and chosen purple for my bedspread. I like flowers, and frequently use them to cheerfully decorate my room. I occasionally go to the movies by myself and prepare simple microwave meals. When I first moved to Tokyo, I felt very "free" because I had a whole room to myself, and I had fun decorating it, but now I feel a little lonely. I frequently call my friends back home. Not long ago, I'd listen to a friend's love life/story and encourage her, which helped to alleviate my loneliness. By the way, something wonderful occurred yesterday! My mother unexpectedly texted me, saying, "Something good will happen tomorrow." She unexpectedly presented me with an induction cooker for the dining table. I'd like to use it to host a dinner party in the future!
