[Post 1167] Will China Send Its Military To Latin America? | China & The Global South

Summary

The US sent a message to China with the capture of Maduro, and that is to stay away from Latin America. When it comes to China’s investments in that region, Venezuela is just the tip of the iceberg.

China is involved in 37 ports across the continent, major Chinese brands like BYD have set up manufacturing plants there, and much of China’s lithium comes from the Lithium triangle of Chile, Argentina and Bolivia. There are also Chinese trains, energy, hydropower, and mining projects across the region. With the US now pursuing the Monroe doctrine, what happens to Chinese investments now? And will China deploy its military to the Western hemisphere, if its investments are threatened?
