Cambodia stands at a critical technological crossroads. As artificial intelligence transforms economies across Asia, the country wants to grasp its potential. But it ranks low in AI readiness among ASEAN countries, ahead of just Laos, Myanmar and Timor Leste. 

Analysts warn that a lack of AI readiness could carry significant economic costs - reduced competitiveness, slower productivity growth, and the risk of foreign firms bypassing Cambodia for more advanced markets. 

Yet Cambodia is not standing still. The government has set out plans to accelerate its AI capabilities through a new National Policy on Artificial Intelligence, focusing on digital-skills training, improved connectivity and tech partnerships.
