[Post 1287] Why China’s Gen Z Is Bringing Ancient Hanfu Fashion to the Streets | China's Night Boom

Summary

Every night at Du Fu Pavilion in Changsha, China, the historic landmark turns into a Hanfu runway.

What began with fewer than 10 rental shops has grown to more than 30, as young visitors dress in Tang-style gowns, book make-up artists and stage photoshoots against the illuminated pavilion.

Packages start from 298 yuan (~US$40), and some shops serve more than 40 customers a night. But competition is fierce, trends shift quickly and staying profitable takes constant reinvestment.
