Summary
During World War II, Japan’s secret biological warfare network, Unit 731, expanded into Indonesia, taking control of key scientific institutions. Decades later, Professor Kevin Baird investigates the mysterious “Mochtar Affair” - the case of an Indonesian doctor accused by the Japanese of killing hundreds of Rōmusha forced labourers. Through archival evidence and eyewitness accounts, the story uncovers allegations of deliberate poisoning, torture and a forgotten wartime atrocity that remains largely unknown today.
