My carousell:carousell.com/eric996

This week I sold away one of my favorite books: Japanese mythology, I remember when I was young I re-read this book many a time as I was fascinated with Japanese creature and urban legend. Over the years, we tend to found ourselves reading lesser and lesser of hard copies book and have perhaps switched to ebook. Parting away with some things may be hard but when you see your room clutter slowly decreasing, there is a sense of satisfaction:)

Let all strive for minimalism together!

(Post 23/week 20)Investment project:Posb invest saver and why i choose Posb invest saver

6.Posb invest saver

This week, I have started a new posb invest saver for g3b. This may sound stupid but ever since I sold my g3b via my old posb invest saver, I found myself constantly monitoring the market like every 30 min to check whether the STI ETF has dropped so I can buy it in a large lump sum at once. With a new posb invest saver, I have limited myself to checking the price of the STI ETF once per month and it was a lot less stressful for me

As of 9 may, the STI ETF is slowly decreasing(or maybe increasing, who knows?) but not as fast as the rate I am hoping(oh well, nothing is perfect in life like I always say)

7.Choosing a posb invest saver plan

Before I reveal about my journey so far with peer to peer lending(moolahsense and funding societies), here is an explanation/research on how I chose my regular saving plan

The shiny thing thread in hardwarezone forum contains useful advice from shiny thing, a very experienced financial advisor, you can read about it here(Warning: its 700+ pages long and has a part 2!)

Summary:
1.investing $100-$500 per month use posb and Maybank
2.investing $500-$1000 per month use OCBC @3%,min $5 or Maybank @1%,min $5
3.investing $1000-$3332 per month use OCBC @0.3% ,min $5
4.investing $1000-$5000 per month
Use standard chartered,@0.2, min 10

For monthly purchase of A35, there are only two options, standard chartered and posb

1.below 1k,use posb invest saver
2.above 1k,use standard chartered @0.2%,min $10

How to calculate the minimum sum to invest in a broker?(just to let you guys know that I am not plucking the number from the sky)

For e.g standard chartered trading rates is 0.20%, min $10 per transaction

We take:0.20%/100=0.002

$10/0.002=$5000(this is a minimum amount you need to invest to ensure that your transaction is worth it)

Due to me serving in national service with a paltry pay of $800, allocating $100 to Singapore bond index fund and $100 to STI ETF(g3b) is just right manageable hence I choose POSB invest saver. Besides, I am pretty sure everyone owns a Posb account from the first day you were born, hence convenient is also a huge factor here

Next week, I will reveal a little more about my peer to peer lending(moolahsense and funding societies) journey so far, stay tuned!

1.Carousell

My carousell:carousell.com/eric996

Another week of mailing and Meet up, this week I am happy to announce that my stamp booklet(10 stamps) has used finish. With each of my c4 size(A4) envelope using 2 stamps, this means I had already done 5 mailing. A new thing I learned this week is that the post office has this big letterbox(see picture below) to mail your large item(think Harry Potter book size)

This means that I do not have to queue up and pay extra charges for weighing and mailing at the post office counter, which could help save a lot of delivery fees and time in the long run. Also this week, I encounter an interesting carousell buyer who says he was donating the book to a children hostel and brought about 14 books off from me(Yes,14 books!).On top of that, he drove to below my BLK to collect the books, how convenient! (for me at least, haha)

(Post 21/week 19)Investment project:My POSB invest saver journey so far...

5.POSB invest saver

*Note:I am not affiliated to any of the companies mention below

POSB invest saver has been a long time component in my portfolio,I bought the STI ETF(G3B) at the price of 2.90 around April 2016(see picture 1 below),it was pure luck at that time as I didn't know much about investing and wanted a saving plan but not with an insurance agent due to a bad experience with my father insurance saving plan payout hence post invest saver. However not long ago I sold my STI ETF(G3B) at 3.50(see picture 2) at April 2018 because I thought at that time that STI ETF(G3B) has reached it's peak 3.65 a few weeks before and was starting to drop

But however, the current price today(as of 1st may 2018)at 3.78(see picture 3 below) thought me something that is very important

(picture 1)

 (picture 2)

  (picture 3)

and that is the market index will always go up in the long run(only apply for a market index like ETF!, as an individual stock price may drop continuously)

Currently, I still hold ABF Singapore Bond Index Fund(A35)because it is still in the red, I bought it alongside with STI ETF(G3b) at NOV 2016 at its about 1.14(see picture 4 below) as of 30 April it is currently at the price of 1.12(see picture 5 below) and I have decided to continue to ride it out by buying it via the dollar cost averaging method at the current price

(picture 4)

(picture 5)

At that time, my mantra was starting investing young and early(I was 20 at that time) and nevertheless to say I think it turns out pretty good as I saw the money in my portfolio(STI ETF, G3B) increasing gradually and started to get more and more interested in the investing world.

I feel a little regret cashing out too early for STI ETF(G3B) but one must be content and satisfied with earning money no matter how small it is.Still, it is a very important lesson learned.

Currently, I am looking at adding even more ABF Singapore Bond Index Fund(A35) to my portfolio by investing in a large lump at once, about 5k maybe as it is currently at an attractive price of 1.12, the lowest in the whole history of A35 is 1.10. Also, DBS Vickers is currently having a promotion on its cash upfront account until 30 June

*Cash Upfront: 0.18% min SGD18
0.12%, min SGD10 plus get S$5 rebate for all online trades

That's all for this week, will continue to update more about my POSB invest saver next week!

1.Carousell

My carousell:carousell.com/eric996

This week is even better than last week, with a consistent upload of item on carousell and setting the mailing option to available there is a lot more buyers compared to the last few months

Honestly, I am starting to like the convenience of mailing so much that I am considering to just do away with meetup but nah, with only the meet up at woodland that's how I keep my cost cheap. However, mailing also has its own set of problems such as bulky item(think books such as the size of harry potter)where it could not possibly fit through the mailing box and I could have to make a trip down to post office to weigh and mail. It is also very inconvenient for me as I am in camp for the weekdays and post office only open on the weekdays and early sat where the queue would be extremely long. But nevertheless, life is never a bed of roses so I would always tell myself to get out there and mail this book. Onwards to the minimalist life!

(post 19/week 18)tipforthought:Singapore saving bond(SSB) is good but i do not have any!

5.An interesting article to read this week

Link:https://blog.seedly.sg/investment-products-below-1000/

Summary:

There are various product in the market that requires less than $1000 to invest
1.Singapore saving bond(SSB) which require a minimum amount of $500
2.Robo-adviser(smartly,autowealth,stash-away)
3.Sti ETF and abf Singapore bond via regular saving plan(posb)
4.Money market fund(FundsuperMart)

Just to add on one more product...

5.Peer to peer lending(moolahsense, funding societies)

Why invest in Singapore saving bond(SSB)?

  • Singapore saving bond(SSB) has an advantage over other instruments such as your saving account and fixed deposit
  • ·It's government-backed(AAA credit rating)
  • ·It's just require a minimum amount of $500 to invest and its return is above 1-2% per annum

To me, Singapore saving bond(SSB)belong to the lowest level of investment, level 1(low-risk low return) but I think it is more reliable than either money market fund or those insurance saving plans that are introduced to you by an insurance agent

Being young and being greedy(Laughs), I do not have any Singapore saving bond but just for information sake, here is how you can buy Singapore saving bond

Research link:http://www.sgs.gov.sg/savingsbonds/Your-SSB/How-to-buy.aspx

  • Step 1: Open an account with any of our Singapore local bank(DBS/POSB, OCBC, UOB)
  • Step 2.Open a CDP securities account with any of our Singapore local bank brokers preferably with our local bank brokers for easy access and convenience, just head down to the bank to apply(DBS VICKERS, OCBC SECURITIES, UOB KAY HIAN)
  • As for me, I open an account with DBS VICKERS by visiting our Singapore invest fair at 2016 when I turn 20 that year
  • Step 3: Buy Singapore saving bond(SSB) via online banking or through ATM(there is a transaction fee of $2)
  • Step 4: Sit back and collect your interest every 6 months (it will be pay to your bank account that is linked to your CDP account)
  • Step 5: Lastly, get out there and start applying the Singapore saving bond today!
The most important advice is to not procrastinate, get out there and start now and start early because everyone learns best from experience, remember no one has more interest in your money than you!

Next week, I think it's finally time to talk about my posb invest saver plan back from 2016(probably going to be a long one), do look out for my post!

1.Carousell

My carousell:carousell.com/eric996

This week has been a busy week for my carousell page with the continuation of selling my item due to spring cleaning of my room and there is a lot more offer ever since I have stated that mailing and postage option is available just last week.

Anyway long story short, I went to SingPost without any knowledge of mailing(yes, I have never done mailing in my life until this week, FYI), luckily I stumble a pretty carouseller who was about to send her item and ask for her help(I saw her writing the address on her envelop using the carousell app)

She walks me through the process and even recommends me to get the envelope from popular instead of singpost as they are cheaper

A big thank you to the pretty carouseller!

Anyway, I purchase a booklet of 10 stamps at $3(30 cents each) and 10 envelopes of c4 size(equivalent to a4 size) at $3.50, each c4 envelope require to put around 2 stamps (60¢)
